Live Cooking Demonstrations
Our talented Chefs will once again turned up the heat with live cooking shows at the 2019 Nowra Chilli & Chocolate Festival.
Celebrity Chef Jason Roberts returns to the Chilli Chocolate Festival alongside Augustus De Hoedt, Travin De Hoedt, Esti Garcia & Rowie Dillon.
A New Zealand native who splits his time between Sydney and New York City, Jason Roberts is an internationally known chef, author, television personality, brand ambassador, fitness enthusiast, and gluten-free lifestyle advocate.
Augustus De Hoedt
A culinary specialist, with an innovative approach and gastronomic experience. 35+ years of managing kitchens, developing impressive menus and creating dishes which influence modern invention. Best known for being an all-rounder in International and Asian Cuisine, themed promotions, Master Class and exotic food preparations. Continuously striving to provide excellence and creating new dishes with calm attitude within the journey of food.
Esti Garcia is a Sydney-based Award-winning chocolatier and pâtissier who is introducing Colombian-inspired artisan chocolate bon bons that are bursting with colour and flavour. Made with single origin ‘fino de aroma’ Chocolate from Luker. A Colombian company who uses this rare variety of cacao.
Esti worked at numerous high end establishments in Sydney including est., Rockpool Bar & Grill and the Porteño group. He Spent time in Spain and France in restaurants such as Azurmendi, a 3 Michelin-starred restaurant in the Basque country of Spain and Bubo Patisserie in Barcelona, Trained at world class schools from L’ecole du grand chocolat Valrhona in France and Melissa Coppel school in Las Vegas.
In 2018 Esti won the category of the best plated dessert in the Australian competition ‘Savour Patissier of the Year’ .
Esti (short for Esteban) launched his own brand and small business last year with a vision to do something very different – bring a rich and tropical Colombian twist to fine artisan chocolates, full flavoured cakes and spreads.

Children’s Cooking Class with Rowie Dillon

Rowie created magic with the kids at this year’s festival with a cooking demonstration to increase engagement among children & families.
Kids cooked their lunch as well as a cake to take home in the marquee. All participants received a goodie bag to take home & name tag.
All proceeds went to Westmead Children’s Hospital.
Did someone say Chilli. Eating. Competition??
We were a little unsure what to expect at this year’s Nowra Farmer’s Market 2018 Chilli Eating Competition but the event went down in history as being the most successful competition to date. Five entrants
stupidly.eagerly signed up for their chance to win the title and the $100 Nowra Farmer’s Market Gift Voucher that was up for grabs.
Each contestant started with a tray of Banana Peppers – low in heat but high in volume. After munching their way through, they then moved onto the next round with each round increasing in heat. The final round to determine the winner saw a combined total of 48 Carolina Reapers eaten between them. What an effort and St John’s Ambulance is to the left!

The Con Artists had us all movin’ and groovin’ as they weaved in and out of the crowds! Their energetic and colourful street performance was a great addition to the 2018 Nowra Chilli & Chocolate Festival and we can’t wait to have them back next year – that’s right. You heard it here first – Con Artists will be making their way back to Nowra in 2019!
