Live Cooking Demonstrations

Our talented Chefs once again turned the heat up with their live cooking shows at the 2018 Nowra Chilli & Chocolate Festival.

Chef Nick Gardner from Hampden Deli in Kangaroo Valley opened the stage with his delectable Carpaccio of Cured Kangaroo Fillet with chilli and chocolate dressing, whipped cocoa butter, sourdough, fresh chilli and herb salad.  Who ever thought the combination of chilli and chocolate to form a dressing could taste so good?

Celebrity Chef Jason Roberts followed cooking two of his dishes, the sensational Chicken Mole and irresistible Chocolate, Rum and Raspberry Souffle.  Both dishes proved to be crowd favourites with every portion quickly snapped up in the taste testing.

Finishing the live cooking shows was Top 30 Finalist 2018 Young Patisserie of the Year, Travin Dehoedt.  Travin whipped up a Chilli Chocolate Tart in no time leaving everyone desperate for more.

Did someone say Chilli.  Eating.  Competition??

We were a little unsure what to expect at this year’s Nowra Farmer’s Market 2018 Chilli Eating Competition but the event went down in history as being the most successful competition to date.  Five entrants stupidly.eagerly signed up for their chance to win the title and the $100 Nowra Farmer’s Market Gift Voucher that was up for grabs.

Each contestant started with a tray of Banana Peppers – low in heat but high in volume.  After munching their way through, they then moved onto the next round with each round increasing in heat.  The final round to determine the winner saw a combined total of 48 Carolina Reapers eaten between them.  What an effort and St John’s Ambulance is to the left!

Thank you to the brave ones who entered and a big congratulations to our Winner – Brendan.

Special thanks to Nowra Farmer’s Market who sponsor this event and generously provide all the Chillis and Winning Prizes.

Live Entertainment

The Con Artists had us all movin’ and groovin’ as they weaved in and out of the crowds!  Their energetic and colourful street performance was a great addition to the 2018 Nowra Chilli & Chocolate Festival and we can’t wait to have them back next year – that’s right.  You heard it here first – Con Artists will be making their way back to Nowra in 2019!
